Jordanian security forces detained three men on Monday following a shootout in the Karak governorate. The Public Security Directorate confirmed the arrests were linked to an attack on a Greek Orthodox church.

The initial incident occurred on Friday in the village of Hammoud while a funeral was in progress. Reports indicated three individuals participated in the attack. Authorities moved to apprehend the suspects at dawn on Monday. All three men sustained injuries during the confrontation. No security personnel were hurt in the operation.

Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya identified the three arrested men as the ones responsible for the violence. Speaking by phone to the state broadcaster Al-Mamlaka, he stated that security services had fulfilled their duties, resulting in the capture of those who carried out this terrorist act. He added that the suspects put up fierce resistance against the security forces, but were ultimately subdued and taken into custody, having sustained severe injuries.

Al-Faraya noted that the men had been identified early on after the incident. Security services used all available means to apprehend them. The Public Security Directorate stated that terrorism has no place among us and that the men had met their just fate. The directorate did not name the suspects or point to any possible links to Islamist militant groups.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. King Abdullah II directed authorities to respond with an iron fist against those he described as the outlaws of Islam and anyone seeking to undermine the unity of the Jordanian people.
