Swalwell Home Searched as Federal Probe Expands
FBI agents executed a warrant at the former congressman's California residence, marking the latest step in a multi-agency review of misconduct allegations.

Former Representative Eric Swalwell’s California residence was raided by Federal Bureau of Investigation officers on Monday. The search forms part of an ongoing federal investigation into sexual misconduct allegations that previously forced Swalwell to withdraw from the race for governor.
Agents conducted the home search as the legal scrutiny against the 45-year-old intensifies. Swalwell’s legal team, led by attorney Sara Azari, has maintained that the claims are false and politically motivated. Azari described the accusations as a "calculated and transparent political hit job" when they first surfaced.
The federal review follows an August operation in which the FBI seized Swalwell’s electronic devices at an airport and searched his Washington, D.C., home. That earlier action was the first major law enforcement step in the matter. Now, prosecutors are examining evidence across multiple jurisdictions to determine the scope of the case.
Swalwell faces claims from several women. These include an allegation that he raped a victim who was too intoxicated to respond and reports that he sent unsolicited nude photographs to others. In addition to the federal probe, separate investigations are currently active in New York City and Los Angeles.
The situation complicates a legal history that includes a declassified White House document regarding a prior FBI inquiry. That earlier probe looked into Swalwell’s 2015 relationship with a suspected Chinese spy, Christine Fang. Swalwell never faced charges related to that specific relationship. The House ethics committee also ended its own review after Swalwell left Congress earlier this year.
