Lakeville North cruised into the Class 3A state semifinals on Tuesday with a 7-0 victory over Alexandria in a girls soccer quarterfinal. The top-seeded Panthers scored early and often.
Junior forward Ally Pluta got the Panthers on the board first and finished with two goals. Senior forward Brynn Koehnen, however, took over the game. She scored four times, all of them in the first half, to give Lakeville North a 5-0 lead.
The Panthers will play the winner of Thursday's quarterfinal between Stillwater and Mounds View. That semifinal is scheduled for 8 a.m. on Nov. 5 in Minneapolis.
In Class 2A, fourth-seeded Mahtomedi beat Mankato East 2-0 behind two goals from junior Adalyn Beulke. Her first came just minutes into the game and started with a header from teammate Lola Dambowy.
A Mankato East goal kick sent the ball toward midfield, where Dambowy won it in the air. The header left Beulke with the ball just outside the box, and she sent a shot just under the crossbar for a 1-0 lead. Beulke added an insurance goal in the second half.
Mahtomedi will meet top-seeded Blake in the semifinals at 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 5 at U.S. Bank Stadium. The Bears advanced by beating eighth-seeded Cloquet 7-0 on Tuesday.
In Class A, second-seeded Watertown-Mayer edged seventh-seeded St. Paul Academy 1-0 in a shootout, 5-4. The Spartans came close to pulling off an upset but fell just short.
Eighth-grader Addison Johnsrud converted the fifth and final shootout attempt for Watertown-Mayer. The win sends the team to next week's semifinals, where it will face Breck.
