Jay-Z will headline the Super Bowl halftime show, a role that places him in direct contrast to his earlier stance that the event was not for him. The NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation announced the selection on Monday evening. The performance is scheduled for February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
Roc Nation has served as a production partner for the league’s entertainment presentations since 2019. During that period, Jay-Z advised on and helped produce the halftime shows. In 2019, he told NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, “If this is about me performing at the Super Bowl, then we can just end this conversation now.”
Seven years after that statement, the rapper agreed to lead the show. The announcement followed a week in which he closed his “Jay-Z 30” tour at SoFi Stadium. That tour included stops at Yankee Stadium in New York and venues in London.
The promotion included a video of Jay-Z sitting in the stadium surrounded by goats, with the text “GOAT’s out of the bag.” Prior to this announcement, other headlining performers had included Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, and The Weeknd.
Born Shawn Carter, Jay-Z has won 25 Grammy Awards and received 89 nominations, the second-highest total in history behind his wife, Beyoncé. His discography features albums such as “Reasonable Doubt,” “The Blueprint,” and “The Black Album.” Songs like “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)” and “Empire State of Mind” are also part of his catalog.
His 1996 debut album, “Reasonable Doubt,” entered the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2025. Jay-Z co-founded Roc-A-Fella Records and established Roc Nation in 2008. The company now manages artists and athletes across music publishing, artist management, and sports.
He was the first rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017 and joined the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021. Following recent halftime performances, artists have seen immediate spikes in streaming data, with one performer holding the top six spots on Spotify’s U.S. chart the morning after the game.
